Frequently Asked Questions

The Financial Handicap Scorecard is a self-assessment that rates your confidence across key financial planning categories like tax efficiency, investment strategy, and retirement readiness. Like a golf handicap, a lower score indicates stronger financial health. It takes about 45 seconds and produces a personalized radar chart of your results.
Everyone rates two core areas: tax efficiency and investment strategy. Then, based on your life stage, you rate two additional categories. Early career adds debt strategy and savings rate. Mid-career adds retirement readiness and estate planning. Pre-retirees add income sequencing and Social Security and Medicare planning.
You rate four financial dimensions on a scale of 1 to 9, where 1 means highly confident and 9 means significant uncertainty. The Financial Handicap Scorecard totals these ratings to produce a score from 4 to 36. Scores under 9 indicate strong financial positioning, while scores above 27 suggest substantial room for improvement.
The scorecard adapts to four life stages: The Front 9 (early career, focused on debt and savings), The Back 9 (mid-career, focused on retirement and estate planning), The Clubhouse (near or in retirement, focused on income strategy), and Second Opinion (for those who already have an advisor and want a fresh perspective).
Many people find it helpful to focus on the category where they scored highest (least confident), since addressing one weak area often creates a ripple effect across others. The scorecard highlights your biggest opportunity area and provides recommended resources tailored to your specific life stage and results.
